Will Cricket be a part of Olympics 2028?

Well, the next couple of months is a pretty important one for the International Cricket Board as they plan to include Cricket for the Los Angeles Olympics. The organisers will be calling out serious contenders to present the importance and impact of the game globally. Now, even though top-tier cricket is played among very few teams, the associate nations have also started playing well and if they get the proper attention and if they are groomed well, they still have the time to create an impact at Los Angeles.

The best part is that the city of Los Angles does have stadiums to facilitate the games and the cricket fans are crazy in that part. Nevertheless, the board will have a tough job in hand in order to convince the committee to add Cricket in their list. Few of the foreign media outlets are convinced that Cricket will be added for the Brisbane Olympics in 2032 but the International Cricket Board is more or less confirmed about their chances for 2028 Los Angeles. Brisbane, a city that’s more connected to Cricket can take the game forward.

“One of our strategic priorities is to get into the LA Olympics. The decision is made by the IOC in consultation with the LOC of LA28. All we can do is put our best foot forward and hope that cricket is taken into LA” the International Board President told Cricbuzz.

Barclay added, “We believe that there's a unique opportunity in the partnership of cricket, the Olympic Movement and LA2028. We want our global fanbase of one billion-plus to be part of the world's greatest sporting event. We want our best players and most dynamic format to enjoy the unique global platform of the Games”.

A spokesperson from the Olympic Committee said, “Beyond the initial 28 sports, the organising committee for the LA28 Games has the opportunity, but not an obligation, to propose additional new sports for inclusion in the LA28 Olympic program. In the coming months, LA28 and the IOC will work with international federations to review disciplines with the evaluation criteria. The criteria will also aid in the evaluation of potential new sports for the LA28 Olympic Games”.

There’s always room for development when it comes to Cricket in the USA but the nation is all set to host the T20 World Series in the year 2024. Thus, things will take time but will get better. Can 2028 be a reality? It is possible.
