Rohit Sharma creates T20I record
Rohit Sharma creates World Record, registers 13 consecutive T20I wins as a captain
Rohit Sharma becomes the first captain in the history of Twenty20 Internationals to register 13 consecutive wins on Thursday, July 7. Team India was playing a three-match T20I series against England at their home. The ‘Men in Blue’ registered the record following a 50-run victory against England while playing the 1st T20I match at the Rose Bowl.
The in-form batsman Hardik Pandya opened the Three-match T20I series against England with a massive win. Hardik became the Man of the Match because of his stupendous performance in both departments. The all-rounder scored 51 off 33 balls, the highest amongst the other team members and also returned with the bowling figures of 4 wickets only giving away 33 runs. The skipper also led from the front as he head to a positive start for the team scoring 24 off 14 balls.
Rohit, who missed the final test against England at Edgbaston after testing positive for COVID, is also unbeaten as a captain since he took the role from Virat Kohli the previous year. Since Virat Kohli was dethroned at the end of the last year, Rohit had led the Indian team to 9 T20I wins. After the T20 World Championship, Rohit Sharma raged on a ruthless run to beat New Zealand, Sri Lanka and West Indies in back to back home bilateral series. However that run didn't continue as expected, India lost 4 months later against South Africa when Rohit didn't feature in the game. Overall Rohit Sharma has an exceptional record of leading Team India to 25 wins in 29 games as captain. Before taking over as the full-time captain, Rohit only led India when the then captain Virat Kohli was rested.
Rohit also reached the milestone of scoring 1000 T20I runs as a captain, before him, only MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli crossed this feat. He also surpassed Virat to become the quickest captain to reach 1000 T20I runs. In 29 innings, Rohit has 1011 runs with an average of 37, at a strike rate of 153 including 2 centuries and 7 half-centuries.
