Fit again Shaheen Shah Afridi returns for PAK World T20 Warm Ups

In a major boost for Pakistan’s prospects, fast bowler Shaheen Afridi has completed his injury rehabilitation and will be joining the team’s T20 World Series squad as per schedule. The premium pace bowler, who had been put in standby, will now be available for selection in the forthcoming warmup games against England and Afghanistan.

Afridi, who suffered a knee ligament injury while fielding in a test match against Sri Lanka in July, missed the Asia T20 2022 as well as the seven-match T20I series against Butler and co. As per a Pakistan Cricket Board Media release, the fast bowler has resumed bowling at full tilt over the last few days.

"I have been bowling six to eight overs trouble-free for the past 10 days with full run-up and pace. While I have enjoyed bowling and batting in the nets, nothing can replace the feel of a match environment and I can't wait to be in that setting," Afridi was quoted as saying on Tuesday (October 11).

"It has been a rigorous and challenging rehabilitation programme, but I have thoroughly enjoyed it. To be honest, I am feeling fitter than ever before and can't wait to wear the playing kit. I want to thank the PCB Medical Advisory Committee as well as the Crystal Palace F.C. for allowing me to use their outstanding facilities and looking after me so well during the rehabilitation programme."

A vital cog in Pakistan’s dominant run in the World T20 series in Dubai, Afridi ended the tournament with 7 wickets to his name.

At the same time, Fakhar Zaman, who was clubbed with the travelling reserves for the upcoming World Series, will also fly to Brisbane and join the squad and will continue his rehabilitation under the supervision of Najeebullah Soomro (team doctor)
