Australia tour of India

2nd ODI: IND vs AUS

Preview

The second match of the three-match ODI series between India and Australia will take place at Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam on Sunday, 19th March at 01:30 PM IST. Team India will aim to seal the series by 2-0 in this match after winning the first ODI with the heroic of KL Rahul, Shami & Jadeja on Friday in Mumbai by 5 wickets. At the same time, this year the Indian team has won seven ODIs in a row so far.

Earlier, India had defeated Sri Lanka and New Zealand in 3-3 ODIs at home. Men in Blue also defeated Australia in the first ODI match. The Visitors have won 9 of their last 11 matches while the Hosts India has lost only 2 of their last 11 ODIs.

While chasing the tricky total of 189 runs India won the match in 39.5 overs of the match by losing 5 wickets. In absence of Rohit Sharma, the Indian top order flopped in the opening ODI. KL Rahul's belligerent 75 and Ravindra Jadeja's unbeaten innings of 45 runs, took team India to cross the line successfully. Indian bowlers produced magical spells with the bowl and dominated Aussie batters in the first match.

In particular, Mohammed Shami neither leaked so many runs nor allowed the Australian batters to stay at the crease for long. He took three wickets for 17 runs with 2 maidens in 6 overs. Siraj and Jadeja also took 3 & 2 Aussies wickets. From the Visitors' camp, only Mitchell Marsh showed his class act by scoring 81 off 65 balls that included 10 fours and 5 sixes in his dominating innings.

Left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc (3/49) and the all-rounder Marcus Stoinis (2/27) shared the new ball and were superb with the ball in the last game with 5 wickets between them. The fast bowler Sean Abbott was economical while the duo of Adam Zampa and Cameron Green failed to stem the run flow effectively.

If we look at the weather update, there is a possibility of rain in Visakhapatnam on Sunday for about two and a half to three hours. Not only this, along with rain, warnings of storms and strong winds have also been issued. India won the first ODI by five wickets under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya to take a 1-0 lead in the series. Team India's regular skipper Rohit Sharma is set to make his return in the second ODI and Ishan Kishan might be left out of the second ODI.

Both sides have faced each other in 144 matches in ODI. Out of these games, The Host, India has won 54 whereas Australia has come out victorious on 80 occasions, 10 matches ended without a result.

Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium will aid the batters and we will expect the pitch some turn and bounce in the match. Batters who apply themselves can score big runs here. Vizag will have bright and sunny weather with no weather interruptions expected.

Both captains will look to bowl first if they win the toss as the pitch might be good to bat on as the match progresses. Chasing in the best option in the limited-over format off late. The pitch here is good for batting as it’s a pretty flat surface. 260 is the pacer score.

Match Prediction

Men in Blue batters have a quality batting line-up and their middle order bailed them out in the last game against Australia. India has a strong bowling attack for the conditions with good pace and spin attacks. The Visitors' batters have played their best in challenging conditions in tests and will look to apply themselves in this match.

Australia has a good pace attack with a lot of all-rounders but relies on Adam Zampa and Mitchell Starc in the bowling department. We expect India to win the match owing to their team strength in the home conditions. The Hosts are likely to seal the series by 2-0.
