The Aussie team will wear a black armband to pay respect to Skipper Cummins’s mother's demise

Maria Cummins, the mother of Australian captain Pat Cummins, died away tonight (March 10). After a protracted cancer struggle, Maria was receiving end-of-life care. Australia missed the full-time skipper for the last two Tests of the Border Gavaskar Trophy because of Pat’s mum's health. On Day 2 of Australia vs. India Ahmedabad Test, Team Australia is wearing black armbands as a sign of respect. Indian Cricket Board and the Australian Board of Cricket also showed grief for the same.

Indian Cricket Board tweeted, “On behalf of Indian Cricket, we express our sadness at the passing away of Pat Cummins's mother. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family in this difficult period.”

“We are deeply saddened at the passing of Maria Cummins overnight. On behalf of Australian Cricket, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Pat, the Cummins family, and their friends. The Australian Men’s team will today wear black armbands as a mark of respect.” Australian Board of Cricket tweeted.

Cummins, who led Australia in the previous two, was set to return during the fourth Test; however, after leaving for home to care for his sick mother, Maria Cummins. Pacer is now also unlikely to participate in ODIs.

Australia and India will play three one-day internationals after the Test series. The three-match ODI series is significant because it will help Australia choose it, starting playing 11 for the ODI World Cup later this year which will occur on Indian soil.

But Cummins isn't presently planning to go back to India. Instead, Steve Smith will be the captain for the remainder of the games. The Aussies have a lead of 480 runs in the fourth test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
