PSG star striker Mbappe will be the new captain of the France Football team 

According to 'L'Équipe', PSG star striker Kylian Mbappe has been named as the new captain of France Football and he is all set to take charge of the side from the 2018 WC winner skipper Hugo Lloris who announced his retirement after the 2022 Qatar WC Final.

The veteran Tottenham goalkeeper, who was in the WC final in Qatar that France lost to Argentina became the goalkeeper with the most appearances -20- in the top national team tournament, announced his retirement from the national team last January, leaving Bondy's and the Antoine Griezmann as the main candidates to relieve him.

However, and despite having 51 international caps less than Griezmann -117 for the former Barcelona player and only 66 for the Parisian-, it will be Mbappé who wears the 'bleus' captain's armband from now on. 

At just 24 years old, Mbappé, a superstar and vice-captain of PSG, has already scored 36 goals with the French team and has played 66 international matches. In addition, the French number 10 won the Golden Boot at the 2022 WC, the award for the best scorer.

He is expected to debut the captain's armband next Friday at the Stade de France, where 'Les Bleus' will play their first qualifying match for European 2024 against the Netherlands.

Lloris was the world champion in Russia in 2018, but at the age of 36, he left the French team with the record for having worn the ribbon in most games (121).

It will be the 'rossonero' Mike Maignan who takes the place of Lloris, as confirmed by Deschamps himself. "The number one goalkeeper will be Mike Maignan. I'm going to talk with him. There will be a pecking order," explained the one from Bayonne. The other two goalkeepers mentioned in this first post-World Cup list are Alphonse Areola (West Ham) and Brice Samba (Lens).
