Lionel Messi notched his 700th club goal in a 3-0 win over Marseille

On Sunday, the French league Clasico was played between Marseille and PSG, where current World Cup winner Lionel Messi managed to score his 700th goal in his career at the club level after Kylian Mbappé gave the assists to the Argentine in the 29 minutes of the game.

35-year-old Messi reached 700 goals at the club level in 840 games. This goal came when PSG beat Olympique de Marseille in the 25th French League fixture, with his 28th goal for PSG, Messi is now just 6 goals behind Ronaldo who leads the tally with 706 goals in 954 appearances for the club.

The play began when Kylian Mbappé faced down the left wing, raised his head and gave Messi the goal to score with a touch from the right. In the game against Marseille, Messi gave two assists so that Kylian Mbappé scored a brace, his 17th league goal.

The first goal came at minute 24 after Messi gave a filtered pass to Mbappé, who did not forgive and shot the Marseille goalkeeper. For the second half, Messi shone with masterful assistance, as Argentina's 10 sent a chopped ball, which Mbappé received, who did not hesitate to hit it to make it 0-3.

PSG added an important victory in their visit to the Velodrome de Marseille, a team that is in second place, five points before the start of the match, and eight after. From Messi to Mbappé and vice versa, this was the PSG game that managed to open the scoring at 24, after the Frenchman received a filtered pass from the Argentine and entered the area to make it 1-0.

When Marseille realized it, they were already knocked out, because, at 28, Mbappé picked up the ball on the left wing of the attack, raised his head, looked and sent the pass to the right place, with the exact power, with absolute precision, to Messi's shot in the area, undetectable by the defence to take advantage of his teammate's gift.

In the second half, PSG opened up more distance thanks to Messi and Mbappé, since there was another connection with a chopped ball from the Argentine, which the Frenchman connected first and volleyed, crossed, out of the reach of Pau López.

The 3-0 win over Marseille helped PSG to extend their lead to eight points in the French League with 60 points on the top followed by Marseille, 52 points, after 25 league games. PSG will face 13th-placed Nantes at home before travelling to Bayern for their Champions League last-16 return leg after losing the first encounter 1-0 at the Parc des Princes.
