New Zealand tour of India

IND vs NZ, 2nd ODI

Preview:

The second match of the three-match ODI series between India and New Zealand (IND vs NZ) will begin on Saturday (January 21) at 01:30 PM IST Live. The second match of the series will be played at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium, Raipur.

The hosts dramatically won the first match on Wednesday, January 18. With the help of Shubman Gill's blistering double century, Rohit Sharma-led team India set a target of 350 runs in the first ODI against the Black Caps. In a response to which the left-handed batter, Michael Bracewell fought brilliantly to take the match to the last over by scoring a century in a stormy manner where India won by 12 runs. Now the second match of the series will be played tomorrow i.e. on 21 January in Raipur.

Even though Team India scored 349 runs in the first match, the most important contribution was from Shubman Gill. He scored 208 runs in 149 balls and became the fifth Indian batter to hit a double century in the ODI format. On the other hand, if we talk about the rest of the batters of the team, then the second-highest individual score was only 34 runs, which came from the bat of skipper Rohit Sharma.

It is clear from this that apart from Shubman, no batsman proved to be effective. Now, team India will need to improve in this aspect and come forward strongly in the second match.

At the same time, presenting tight bowling in front of the batters of the opposition team will also be a big challenge in front of India. Men in Blue had to face the same problem against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka as well. Where Mehidy Hasan and Dasun Shanaka respectively almost snatched the match from the hands of Team India. For this, Team India can give Umran Malik a chance in the playing eleven in place of Shardul Thakur in the second ODI on Saturday.

On the other hand, Michael Bracewell's fighting innings will not lack confidence in the Kiwis' camp. Even though the upper-order batters could not contribute much, Mitchell Santner and Michael Bracewell put on a 162-run partnership with the score of 131/6 to bring the visitors back into the match.

Talking about the ODI matches played between India and New Zealand, 114 ODIs have been played between the two teams so far. Out of which Team India has won 56 and New Zealand has won 50. During this, 1 match tie and 7 matches have no result. Therefore, it is bound to be a close fight between the two teams in the second match. Its trailer has also been seen in the first match of the series.

Pitch Report:

Like other Indian wickets, the wicket of Raipur Cricket Stadium has also considered a paradise for batters. In recent T20 matches played at this ground, the average score has been seen at 180, while in ODIs, this total can potentially go beyond 300. But it will slow down as the game progresses, which means spinners will enjoy bowling here more than the pacers. Therefore, the variety of slow bowlers and fast bowlers can prove to be effective on this pitch. Also, on this pitch, the captain can decide to bat first after winning the toss.

The weather in Raipur is expected to remain warm on Saturday i.e. 21st of January. Bright sunlight can provide a challenge to the players at the time of the start of the match at 1:30 pm. However, the weather is expected to turn cooler as the day passes.

The maximum temperature will remain at 31°C, with a low of 16°C with 51% humidity, and a light wind speed of 6 Km/hr for the second ODI on Saturday between India and New Zealand. Also, there is a hint of cool conditions after a slightly warm afternoon. Both the day of the game and the days leading up to it have no possibility of rain. Therefore, the weather won’t interfere with the game.

Match Prediction:

The Hosts won the first match of the 3-match ODI series against New Zealand on Wednesday by 12 runs in a nail-biting contest. We can expect the same contest on Saturday as well between the two sides in Raipur. Team India will be having an upper in this match as well keeping home conditions in mind. We might expect a good fight from Black Caps in this fixture but we say India to go 2-0 up in the series by winning this match.
