The Hammers stun table toppers Arsenal, secured point against the Gunners
West Ham held Arsenal on 2-2 in the crucial EPL title race
The Gunners dropped two crucial points against the 15th place in the Premier League points table West Ham. A 2-2 draw in the Hammers vs Arsenal duel could thwart attempts to win the Premier League trophy for the first time since 2004. Arteta's men just threw away their chance to win against West Ham in the London Derby at the London Stadium, Sunday.
Two goals ahead through Gabriel Jesus and Martin Odegaard, Arsenal even conceded two goals towards the end of the game. Not only that, but Bukayo Saka's missed penalty also made the Gunners win three points away from home. This is the second time Arsenal have lost full points in a row. Previously against Liverpool at Anfield, Arsenal were also leading with two goals until Liverpool made a solid comeback to secure a point against the Table toppers.
However, the Reds were able to equalize the score through Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah. The failure to achieve a victory that was already within his grasp made coach Mikael Arteta inflamed. The reason is, Arsenal lost vital points in the hunt for the championship title. Arteta said the team was in big trouble. Because they lost the instinct to kill which led to not being able to win the game.
"When in a game there is a chance to kill [goal scoring], you have to be able to do it. When you don't have that mindset in the Premier League, then you will lose momentum," said Arteta. "It's disappointing". We made a very good start. We dominated and scored two beautiful goals. But then we made a mistake and couldn't score again," he said. Failing to win did not change Arsenal's position which is still perched at the top of the standings.
However, the main competitor and defending champion Manchester City managed to close the gap in points. With 70 points, Man City is only four points behind Arsenal. Apart from that, The Citizens still have one game in hand. Arsenal didn't only face Man City who was very consistent and on fire. They also have a winning mentality.
