Umar Gul named Pakistan's Bowling Coach for AFG T20Is

Former Speedster Umar Gul has been named Pakistan’s bowling coach for the upcoming series against Afghanistan, Pakistan Cricket Board chair Najam Sethi announced on Twitter on Tuesday. Meanwhile Abdul Rehman, the veteran domestic coach, has been appointed the interim coach.

Mohammad Yousuf, who was earlier named the interim boss for the series, will continue serving as the batting coach. Contradicting the earlier announcement, the Board officials clarified that it was a mistake on their part.

Pakistan has been without the services of a head coach since Saqlain Mushtaq’s contract expired in December last year. They tried to rope in Mickey Arthur, who had previously served as the head coach during Sethi’s previous stint as the chairperson. However due to his commitment with English County Derbyshire, he was unavailable for the full time role. The Pakistan Cricket Board is yet to clarify his status and the role he is currently playing with the cricket team.

Physiotherapist Cliffe Deacon and Conditioning Coach Drikus Saaiman have retained their contracts. Pakistan will be without many of their standout players for the Afghanistan series scheduled to begin from March 24 in Sharjah.
