Kohli, Bumrah rested for WI ODIs
Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Yuzvendra Chahal have been rested for the five T20I series against West Indies. The Indian cricket board has picked a 18-man squad for the forthcoming series which starts from July 29 in Trinidad. As per reports Kohli is believed to have asked for rest during the series.
Rohit Sharma will serve as the team's captain, while KL Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav’s remains uncertain. If the duo can clear out the fitness test, then they do have a chance of competing. Both had lately been disabled by injuries and were in the rehabilitation stage.
Offspinner R Ashwin has been re-inducted into the T20I squad as well, as India is eager to explore all options before the World Series/Championship later in the year.
Ashwin had made a comeback after a lengthy absence from the white ball group in the T20I World Series the previous year, but since then, injuries have also contributed to his exile from the team.
On the WI tour, India will play three ODIs and five T20Is. There will be two of the T20I matches played in Florida, USA. India has already picked an ODI team, which will be led by Shikhar Dhawan and would be without any of its regular players. After being benched for ODIs, Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya have been selected for the T20I team.
India's squad for 5 T20Is: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Shreyas Iyer, Dinesh Karthik, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, R Ashwin, Ravi Bishnoi, Kuldeep Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Avesh Khan, Harshal Patel, Arshdeep Singh
